Hot foil stamping represents an additional operation in the packaging production process. It gives the packaging a high gloss, which provides a premium effect. Because it is an additional operation, the packaging production process itself is slightly more expensive. Precisely because of this, it is also a slightly less sustainable choice, as it causes more waste and makes the packaging recycling process more difficult.
Printing with metallic Pantone inks is part of the printing process on the printing machine. It increases the cost of packaging production only by as much as the preparation of the unit on the printing press with additional Pantone ink costs. The effect on the packaging itself is similar to hot foil stamping, but it is not as prestigious, as the print does not have as high a gloss as the foil.
We like to combine both types of printing with blind embossing to create an additional ‘WOW’ effect.
Both types of printing share common characteristics – but also have some differences.
